The GLOCK 19X

Are you guys excited about the GLOCK 19X? Though it’s not really new new, it is what we’re getting from GLOCK for 2018, so GLOCK fans, you can decide to be happy about it, or continue being grumpy for the rest of your life waiting for something that is never going to happen…

But, I digress.

The GLOCK 19X, if you didn’t know, was the company’s submission to the U.S. Army’s Modular Handgun System (MHS) solicitation. (The SIG P320 won.) The civilian version is being released to dealers on January 22, 2018 with a listed $750 MSRP.

Josh Dorsey, who is GLOCK’s vice president says, “The G19X was developed for the military and is a practical everyday pistol that will do what you need it to do, when you need it; every time, in every condition.”

It marries Glock’s two most popular handguns, the G19 and the G19—topping a G17 full-sized frame with the G19 compact slide assembly that may or may not be your dream GLOCK “crossover.” Essentially, it’s a Gen 5, but to meet the MHS requirements, Glock added some improvements to improve accuracy. Most notably is the 4” nDLC-coated GLOCK Marksman Barrel with enhanced polygonal rifling and improved barrel crown. GLOCK headquarters says it produces 3” groups at 50 yards.

Aesthetically, you will notice the color first. This is GLOCK’s first factory finish that isn’t black. The Coyote brown on the slide is a nPVD coating that is imbued into the metal. Looking closer, you will also notice that there are no finger grooves, better contouring on the frame and trigger guard, no beveled mag well, no finger cut out, and a lanyard loop—which, don’t worry, you can remove.

Like all GLOCKS, there is an ambidextrous slide release and a reversible magazine release. The 19X that was submitted to the MHS competition had a manual safety. Obviously, on the civilian version that feature is gone.

When you take it apart, the GLOCK 19 uses a dual-captured guide rod and recoil spring, which helps manage recoil.

It comes with a Coyote brown hard case, three magazines (one 17-round flush-fit and two 19 rounds with grip extension,) interchangeable backstraps, a mag loader, gun lock, bore brush, and cleaning rod. There will also be three different sight choices, including metal night sights.

Remember, it was developed for the military, not for civilian EDC, so set your expectations accordingly, and you won’t be disappointed. At the end of the day, it’s a GLOCK and GLOCK fans—we predict—will love it.
