Dick’s Sporting Goods is destroying what its left of its AR-15s, MSRs and “high-capacity” magazine inventory.
After the February 14th high school shooting in Parkland, Florida in which 17 people were murdered, Dick’s Sporting Goods announced their Field and Stream stores would cease the sale of “assault weapons” and “high-capacity magazines.” The company also stopped selling firearms to anyone under 21 years old. Dick’s CEO Edward Stack commented on the company’s decision, “When we saw what happened in Parkland, we were so disturbed and upset. We love these kids and their rallying cry, ‘enough is enough.’ It got to us. We’re going to take a stand and step up and tell people our view and, hopefully, bring people along into the conversation.”
As far as the most recent decision, a Dick’s spokesperson said, “We are in the process of destroying all firearms and accessories that are no longer for sale as a result of our February 28th policy change. We are destroying the firearms in accordance with federal guidelines and regulations.” The parts left over will be sent to a salvage company to be recycled.
We hear you Dicks loud and clear. Instead of returning the firearms to the manufacturers or donating them to law enforcement, you are destroying them. Your views are certainly understood.
